I was scrolling through social media, some thing I have found myself doing more and more since I have reduced the time I spend reading fiction- I have been lost in the world of fantasy this whole lockdown and missed some great moments to connect and be there for my friends but it is never too late.
Anyway while I was just let my brain rest after a busy remote working day, I noticed a post which said what 3 words would you say to your 15 years old self.
Immediately, my old mantra of “Ezugo is Ezugo” which both tells me to be my unapologetic self and my name happens to mean “enough” in my language jumped into my head.
But I didn’t want to go for the easy A+, so I thought a bit more, tried some biblical adaptations and even looked through other people’s answers (hey its not every time you need to be original, don’t reinvent the wheel- just customise it). I even remembered that phrase from the movie 3 idiots, “All is well“.
It was this inspiration that lead my to my current mantra and my eventual nugget of wisdom… “All is transient“
The word transient can be an adjective or a noun and means:
- lasting only for a short time; impermanent
- staying or working in a place for a short time only.
- a person who is staying or working in a place for a short time only.
- a momentary variation in current, voltage, or frequency.
Take a second to thinking of the phrase, the sentence and its meaning:
Everthing… your emotions, your difficulties, your successes, your relationships, your wealth, your health, your time, your ambitions, your dreams, your thoughts, your life… all is transient.
This does not detract form their importance rather I dare say it puts things in paradoxical perspective. It tells you to be fully immersed in the moment and experience it… don’t fixate on the past regrets or guilt, you are not your past actions they only inform your present… don’t be anxious or fearful of your future, you have time to prepare in the present and it will come either way.
Rather focus on the now… take actions today… we live from second to second like the frames of a movie, only because micro seconds are too fast and minutes are too long (exercise: try to accurately time a minute without any device). So be present in the moment and own it, because you are not your past or future rather you are your choices which are made in the present as time is only linear for us mortals.
Imbibe this values in the present; Gratitude, Reflection, Awareness, Consistence, Effort = G.R.A.C.E. and then leave the rest to God.
